Journal - Tonsillitis Attack - Sean

Sigh... It had to happen again. There is nothing I fear more than tonsillitis. From both personal experiences and reliving through Sean. It is very scary when he gets sick like this as most of the time his body is unable to cope with the fever and spasms. In medical terms, I believe they call it rigor.

It started yesterday afternoon innocently enough with a slight fever. Nothing remarkable about it. He vomitted after dinner at 8p.m. and it was downhill from then onwards.

I found myself battling the 39 and 40 degree fevers from 1 a.m. till 4 a.m. despite medication and sponging. By then I knew that it was a repeat performance of his old tonsillitis and I was guilty of falling asleep by 4 a.m. I was really guilty as we opted not to remove tonsils when he had the acute adenoids last year. He was really in pain and not sleeping.

Woke up with a start at 6 a.m. and he still had that monster of a fever. I decided to call our trusty Dr V at 7 a.m. As luck has it and bless his soul, this kind and best doctor drove over to our house. He whipped out his handphone and called the A and E and we were there in a jiffy.

After a blood test, an IV and Augmentin straight away into the IV, we waited for the blood test results. His white cell count was off the charts! We were there till 9.45 a.m. but the fever did not settle until we got home. Put him to bed at 12.45 noon and boy was he exhausted after all that. He was snoring so loud. I never thought I would be so happy to hear any form of snoring as I am a light sleeper.

I have gotta go - we are due for another jab at 3 p.m. at the hospital. He still has a fever but it is more manageable at 38 degrees. Phew... Thanks to our very dependable Dr V and I really owe lots to him.
